The Suppress Assignment check box in the Assignment tab suppresses the user’s schedule when any exception occurs. This requires employees to manage time on and off in order to recognize a full work week when feeding a payroll system.
Very few groups of personnel suppress assignments using this feature because it requires employees to manage work schedules and ensure that the correct number of hours worked reach payroll.
For example, Joe decides to take a partial sick leave at the beginning of his shift, running 8AM to 5PM. Joe plans to return to work at noon. Joe adds a sick code from 8AM -12PM. The calendar and Roster shows 8AM- 12PM.The Payroll report shows 8AM-12PM, 4hours. The second half of the shift is suppressed and unaccounted for. To account for the second half of the shift, Joe must enter another work code to cover the second half.
By suppressing assignments, there is no need to use the Shift Edit work code because the application automatically suppresses any shift time remaining.
The remaining shift time should be taken into consideration when implementing this feature along with a payroll feed because when an employee works a partial day this action requires at least two work codes to distinctly capture time on and time off such as Regular Duty and Sick Leave, respectively.
