Sort Unit Position By Position Formula

Dynamic position sorting within a unit can be accomplished by creating a custom roster view using Sort by Position Formula ID. This feature requires a position type formula ID. The most common sorting variables include seniority date or an opportunity number. The custom roster view sorts the positions based on the returned value of the formula ID variable. Using a formula ID returns candidates based on their assigned value which may create a dynamic sorting effect on the unit.

For example, suppose that Joe is the most senior person on the unit, he occupies position #1, and Thomas is the next most senior person on the Unit and so he occupies position #2. Thomas takes sick leave, and Lee fills in for Thomas, however, Lee is more senior than Joe and because of this Lee sorts in position #1 and Joe moves down to position #2.

To sort by position formula ID, the position must have the formula ID used for sorting assigned in Setup > Organization >...Position > Formula ID. Additionally, it is possible to run a Person Formula ID within a Position Formula ID when a person type variable is needed to sort personnel.

Note:

The Sort by Position Formula ID setting in the Content Tab of custom roster view runs independent of the Lead with Formula ID setting in the Display Tab of a custom roster view.
