This topic covers Institution Setup Filters available as of application 7.3 and combines Help topics of type concept, reference, and task in a single topic for clarity. Focus Filter help topics prior to 7.3 are presented in the help topic, Focus Filters (PRE v7.3).

Focus Filters were redesigned in application version 7.3 to facilitate the filtering and accessibility of Setup items, improve the use of focus filters by institutions, and eliminate the thirty-one focus filter limitation. Institution Focus Filters are used to separate and assign most setup items to one or more institutions. Institution Focus filters only function when Institution Focus is enabled. !! UPGRADE Information: Additionally, upon upgrading to 7.3 the application will automatically set one Institution Focus Filter per institution. Institutions and People are no longer Setup Categories. All users inherit the Institution Setup Filter of their Home Institution. Users will have access to only those Setup Category items granted by their Authority. |
Institution Focus Filters limit all Setup Category items to an assigned institution. People inherit the setup items available to an institution according to each user’s setup area privileges. This means the person’s Home institution and any Scheduled Into institutions define which setup area items are available to the user and relative to the person’s authority permissions.
The Focus Filter Assignment page available prior to application version 7.3 now displays Institutions and Setup Categories to create an Institution Focus Filter.
Additionally, a user who has rights over multiple institutions will have access to those same institutions in the Institution Setup Filters page regardless of the institution in focus. All available Setup Categories can be assigned to an Institution Setup Filter, even if the person creating the filter does not have rights to that Setup Category item outside of the Institution Setup Filters area. Authority permissions control accessibility, Institution Focus Filters only control what is available should the user have rights to that item in the Setup area.
Setup items are automatically assigned to the institution they are created in. Setup items created in the focused None view are implicitly assigned to all institutions. This means the item is accessible to all institutions until it is explicitly assigned to an institution. Only users with system Administration1 rights can change implicitly selected setup items.
The following permissions control visibility and accessibility rights in the Institution Focus Filter area as follows:2
Setup: Security permission grants the user full access for Home and their Scheduled Into institutions regardless of which institution the user is currently focused into in the Institution Focus Filters area.
Setup: Institution Override permission grants the user either full access to all institutions, or limits the user to scheduled into institutions only - if any. (None, not included)
Setup: Schedule Into permission grants the user access to Schedule Into Institutions. If no institutions are selected in the Schedule Into menu, then the applications grants None access in the focus menu.
For additional information pertaining to focus menu behavior see topic, Institution Focus.
Person Imports using XML, CSV, and API will ignore Setup Filters if called out in the file. This means, if you import a new rank in Institution 1, the new rank will be assigned to the Institution 1 Setup Filter.
As of application version 7.3 the Audit function available in the Setup area displays transactions across all institutions when enabled. The Audit button enables or disables as follows...

Institution Setup Filters (ISF) must be enabled on the System Information page for filters to take effect. However, ISF may be configured in a disabled mode for pre-configuration purposes. To enable this feature to take effect, go to System Information, and select the Enable Institution Setup Filters check box.5
A warning displays on the Institution Setup Filters page when this feature is disabled to alert the user that filter configuration will not take effect until the feature is enabled.6
Before you start using Institution Setup Filters, verify whether this feature is turned on or off in the System Information area. To configure an Institution Setup Filter:
