A job title is a job, rank or a position assignment. Jobs are roles that have a fixed responsibility or assignment such as a Captain, Foreman, Engineer, Mechanic, or Officer. This application allows terminology so you can name it to Job, Rank, Job Title or any term that best fits your organization in Setup > General > Terminology.
Job Titles are assigned to positions, people, and authorities. Job Titles must display in order of command level or reflect your organizational hierarchy. The application uses this order when qualifying actors up or down or when acting authorities activate.
See Job Title Field Descriptions reference topic for use case examples of Acting Authority.
IMPORTANT:
Be sure ranks are ordered correctly because rules and acting authorities link to ranks to determine when a person is acting up or down. To order job titles use the icon that looks like a gear in the Setup Job Title area and select Turn On Ordering.
Not all ranks are assigned to positions. See ‘Job Title: Before Configuring...’ - before configuring your ranks.
Customers using Dimensions must manage jobs in Dimensions. Jobs are pushed from Dimensions to be used as selectable items in the Business Structure as positions, and in the person Profile. User inputs in this application via editing rights is not recommended as this could cause undesirable synchronization issues.
