Multi-Day Schedule Technical Knowledge

The Multi-Day Schedule by default includes all working and regular duty type records. This means if you create a working or regular-duty work code after you’ve created a filter it will automatically contribute to Totals and Headcounts. This behavior can be optionally redefined in Setup > Organizations.

Prior to application version 6.6 only work codes of type Working and Regular Duty with the Roster Headcount property applied in Setup > Codes... contributed to the totals and headcount tally. As of version 6.6, Total and Headcount work code contributions defined with the Roster Headcount1 setting do not contribute nor define which records are returned specifically on the Multi-Day Schedule as this functionality was moved and available in Setup Institution. Allowing greater flexibility, and customization as each institution can now define work code contributions - which includes work codes of type Non-Working.

Customers upgrading from a version prior to v6.6 and using the Multi-Day Schedule with pre-existing work code filters will initially and automatically populate the Exclude Working Codes menu list with all work codes of type working and regular duty that do not have the Roster Headcount property applied in Setup > Codes... The upgrade to v6.6 or subsequent versions does not check non-working codes as non-working codes came in effect in version 6.6. After the initial upgrade, Totals and Headcounts will be the same as before the upgrade.
Application Behavior
Managing exceptions and shuffling people between shifts and working areas to level personnel for the day, the week, or by section on the multi-day schedule is much more user-friendly to carry out using a horizontal weekly grid page layout than the Staffing board or the vertical single-day Roster view. The difference between the Multi-Day view and the Roster is the data call (pulling of information) and calculation requirements to build the Roster view. The Roster is position based, this means - upon build, the Roster evaluates positions, conditions, vacancies, roster counts, vacancy strategies, shifts and so on when returning assignment data and staffing records for a single day, which depending on the application’s configuration may take some time to build when multiple days are called for. The Multi-Day View has a smoother draw time because the target information is person-centric, the application pulls information from the person’s assignment tab and staffing records (work codes), hence less data processing and number crunching.
1 The Roster Headcount work code property still applies towards headcount totals on the Roster headcount matrix.
