Assigning Shifts to Positions

Assign a shift to a position when the position requires constant staffing.

For example, a vacant position must be visible on the Roster and available for staffing when the person assigned to the position and shift retires, is terminated, or transfers to another location. Essentially, that position is expected to be vacant, require backfilling, and will be unassigned for an unknown or prolong period of time.

Important
Do not assign a shift at the position level to create a vacancy when the person who occupies the position is sick a few days, or on vacation for two weeks, or maternity leave, or any extended leave purpose. Non-working type work codes are used to capture leave exceptions and create vacancies on the Roster when needed.
